Who may live in a Rancho Bernardo “over 55” community? Whatever you may have previously, “Senior Communities” which were previously ruled only by the local CC&Rs have subsequently been standardized by the State Legislature through California Civil Code 51.3.

While I am putting the requisite pages through an OCR, this explanation should suffice for a “quick and dirty” explanation of the CC&Rs as modified by the Civil Code for both Oaks North and Seven Oaks.

One married/co-habiting party must be over 55. The other party may be of any age. A single party over 55 may have a caregiver of any age if the caregiver is a family member.

A family member over 55 may have a physically or mentally impaired person of any age living in an “over 55” community for whom they are the caregiver,

Obviously, there are many other permutations – and they will be addressed by a copy of California Civil Code 51.3, a copy of which is available by pressing the "55+" button on the left margin.

With its main entrance off Pomerado Road, Oaks North was the second retirement community within RB. Its houses are newer than the original Seven Oaks homes, and tend to be a little larger. As a retirement community, it features single story homes, but there are condos available here also.

The Oaks North Community Center is designed around the needs of Seniors, although it also hosts the areas most active computer club. Seniors and computers are NOT mutually exclusive, and the Oaks North Computer Club is one of the oldest and best in North San Diego County.

And, yes, Oaks North has its own small shopping center as well. In addition to its small Oaks North strip mall, Oaks North backs up to the Rizzo Family Winery in North Poway, and there is an entry through Oaks North. There are many small shops there.
